As I watch technology enter the fitness, figure and bodybuilding world, it's interesting to me how people are struggling to learn how to use this new found tool (technology).
For instance, I received an email recently from a high level competitor.
It was all about this person, was not engaging, was not interesting and did not even consider me (the customer).
Are you in business to talk about yourself or are you in business to make money?
Hopefully, you recognize yourself as a business person.
Time is valuable, time is money.
So having said that, how much money is your existing website or newsletter making you?
Don't have one?
You most certainly should!
Let's go back to the newsletter that I received about the competitor for a moment.
The newsletter didn't ask me to do anything, didn't ask me to take action, didn't promote their products - nothing.
If you are a top level competitor, it's almost your duty to give more to your audience/fan base.
More autographed pictures, more seminars, more videos, more training, etc.
It's a win-win.
I've learned that most people don't value what you simply GIVE them.
And if you do give too much away - well you need to have a talk with yourself.
So although, it's great to give a picture here and there and let people know what's going on
with you - you should always be marketing yourself and your business.
Your customers are like a parade - some are at the front of the line, middle of the line and back of the line.
You have to continue to market to them in order for them to know about your products.
Have a great day!
Scott
P.S. Look at for my MuscleandFitness Marketing Bootcamp!

Business on Autopilot?
If you are not earning at least 50% of your income from your website then there is a lot of room to grow your business.
All of the top bodybuilders, fitness and figure competitors should be earning at least 50% of their income from their websites using the methods that I've mentioned before.
All of the top stars should easily be earning 6 figures a year from their websites.
I would guesstimate that most of them are earning less than $10,000 a year from their website, if they even have a website.
Let's get into Step #1 of the 3 Step Process.
Note - I covered why you need a website and how to set it
up in the last email that I sent (September 07)
The most important element of the website is an opt-in box.
As mentioned earlier, an "opt-in" box is a tool used in order to collect email addresses.
Email addresses or "the list" as it is called in the internet marketing world is your bread and butter.
These are your virtual customers who have come into your virtual store (your website) and are interested in learning more and probably buying something from you.
The opt-in box should be in the top "fold" of your main page so that the website visitor can see the opt-in box immediately.
Pop test! How does your website stack up?
Do you have an opt in box or simply a "contact me" link
that is hard to spot by the untrained eye.
Some mistakes that I see with many of the top bodybuilders, fitness and figure competitors include:
1) No opt in box at all.
2) Rather than an opt-in box, a link is used that says "Contact me".
3) The opt-in box is near the bottom of the main page where no one will ever find it.
Once you begin to collect email addresses you begin to build a list of potential customers who are interested in learning more about you and your products.
Now it's time to sell them your products via regular email newsletters.
For an example of the opt-in box, please visit www.bodybuildersreality.com
So to capture email addresses in the bodybuilding, fitness and figure internet world there are a couple of methods as I see it.
Method 1) You're already high profile like Lee Priest so you don't have to do anything. People want to know more about top pros like Lee so they will readily sign up for the newsletter and enter their email address in the opt-in box at www.bodybuildersreality.com
Method 2) You're not high profile (yet) so you need to give something in order to get something.
I will cover more on this in the next email.
Until then...put your mental muscle to work and start
earning some powerful income!
Have a great weekend!

studio, information products (dvd's, ebooks, books, manuals, online video, etc), home based fitness business

The scarcity factor
Off topic post.
The scarcity factor.
There seems to be a lot of this in the BodyBuilding and Fitness world.
No one does a lot of promoting others pros products - dvd's, ebooks, manuals, camps, seminars, etc.
They're afraid to.
They think there isn't enough to go around.
They're wrong.
There's an abundance.
More than enough for everyone.
Share your resources with others, promote each other, don't be afraid that someone will steal something off of your website, etc and so on.
This is small and scared thinking.
This lesson was learned a long, long time ago in other industries but not in the fitness and bodybuilding industry - yet.
Go for the win-win.

A Summary
OK, now that the bad weather (ice/sleet) here in Texas has passed and I'm caught up with everything, it's back to my every once in a while blog post.
We've been talking about websites, newsletters, autoresponders and such.
Hopefully, you've been reading these posts and are starting to understand how you can change your website from a "look at me" site to a money making profit source.
Here are some other ways to capitalize on technology and websites.
Youtube.com - everyone should know about youtube. And all bodybuilders, fitness and figure competitors should be using youtube. Here are the steps to get a short clip or video up on youtube.com in just a day.
1) Shoot some video.
It could be a video of yourself explaining your website launch, or your new eBook, or you could go over something within your area of expertise.
2) Import the video.
With some cameras you can simply upload the footage to the web which is easiest, but personally I like to edit my footage so I can cut, add and smoothout the video.
3) Upload the video to youtube.com
Set up a free account at youtube.com - it takes minutes. Then you'll be able to upload your own videos . This is an extremely valuable skill to develop.
I am coming out with a product at www.fitnessvideosuccess.com in which I will go into great detail about how and why you must learn to master video if you are in a visual activity such as bodybuilding, fitness or figure. And if you want to make money at what you love doing.
Next time we will get into more specifics of youtube and other resources.
Thanks,
Scott

Lee Priest

As most people in the bodybuilding and fitness world know, Lee Priest is one of the most popular "characters" in bodybuilding.
Lee is from Australia, has been competing professionally since the early 90's and lives a happy go lucky life.
He's fun to be around - plus he likes to eat (like me).
Once I came up with the concept of www.bodybuildersreality.com, I wrote the copy and designed the website ALL BEFORE HAVING A MAIN CHARACTER!
I didn't wait.
This is important.
I knew that in order to be "First to market" I needed to have everything in place asap.
This worked well because once I contacted Lee, all I had to do was to point him to the website (www.bodybuildersreality.com) and he could see for himself and understand what it was that I was trying to do with this project.
The problem was...I didn't know Lee personally.
And he didn't know me at all.
But, we both lived in Austin, Texas.

So, one day I emailed him, proposed the idea of bodybuildersreality.com to him.
It took several days to get an answer but once I did, it was what I was hoping to hear.
Lee's answer was "Yes" and he thought that the project would do well.
So, to sum up, if you had told me that I would be working with Lee someday in the area that I love (bodybuilding and fitness) and I would be making money doing it - I probably wouldn't have believed it.
So how does this affect you.
Well, what moneymaking fitness/bodybuilding ideas do you have that might allow you to work with someone whom you admire?
Stop waiting around and take action!

The Importance of a Mentor

I came up with the DVD of the month program (www.bodybuildersreality.com)by sheer accident.
I was trying to break away from a tech job that I hated. I was working long hours for peanuts - my quality of life wasn't where I wanted it to be.
So...
I went looking for a mentor. Someone who could teach me to create the life that I so desperately wanted.
I loved fitness. It was my passion. But I didn't want to spend hours upon hours in a gym training people.
I didn't want to trade my time for dollars. I wanted passive, automatic income.
I wanted to wake up in the morning, turn on my computer and see orders.
But how?
The mentor that I followed had a audio CD of the month program. For 19.95 a month I would get a CD mailed to me which explained how to make more money in the personal training business.
Each month there were experts in marketing, publicity, sales copy, web site optimization and so on.
I loved this stuff.
For 19.95 a month, I was overwhelmed with valuable information that would help me to create the lifestyle that I wanted - if I took action.
And action I took.
I wanted to create something similar but in the bodybuilding world.
I wanted to combine an of the month product, fitness and a reality type of program.
Boom!
The seeds were planted for www.bodybuildersreality.com.
Next time I'll discuss how I got my main character - Lee Priest.
You can do all of this too. If doesn't have to be a reality program - use your imagination and come up with your own fitness products.
There's an audience waiting...
Happy New Years to all!
Be safe!

Product Creation for BodyBuilders, Fitness and Figure Competitors.
Go to www.bodybuildersreality.com
The first thing that you'll notice is an image of Lee Priest.
As you read through the sales copy you'll understand that this is a subscription website for a DVD of the month featuring Lee Priest.
We're entering our second year of BodyBuildersReality.com and guess what?
People want more.
The subscribers want longer episodes, new customers want to buy the whole series and potential customers want to know who else besides Lee Priest we might be featuring in the future.
I'll explain how I came up with this idea and how you can do it to.
See you next time!
Happy Holidays,

Newsletter Titles To Get Maximum Respon$e
Most people 's inbox is flooded with junk mail.

It all starts with the headline.
Here's a great tool to use when crafting your headline

Newsletter Content
ABM stands for "Always Be Marketing".
In Dr. Joe Vitale's book about P.T. Barnum entitled "There's a Customer Born Every Minute", Dr. Vitale describes your audience or customer base as a "parade of people".
In other words, your customers are like a big line of people who are walking by your products and services.
The front of the line approaches and continues to walk. The middle of the line approaches and walks by. Etc and so on.
Some people die, some people lose interest in your products and new people gain interest in your products.
You have to always market to your potential customers for these reasons.
One of the best way to do this is by using your newsletter (see previous blogs).
I like to use both 1shoppingcart.com and constantcontact.com.
I recommend that you illustrate your marketing efforts by telling a story.
Stories are something that people can relate to as opposed to just trying to use some thinly veiled marketing plug.
For example, with www.bodybuildersreality.com, I will normally tell a story about Lee Priest in my newsletters.
This works extremely well.
People want to know what Lee is up to and the story addresses just that.
I will finish the story and then lead into a DVD sale or special offer.
The orders start coming in like a avalanche.
Make sure that you use short, simple words and get to the point of your newsletter - don't drag it out for pages and pages.
3 or 4 paragraphs is plenty.
Include links to your products and pictures in the newsletter to hold your audiences attention.
I like to link previews using youtube.com
This is extremely effective.

Newsletter Basics
Once you've built a good tight list or prospects using your opt in box, it's time to start sending (emailing) your newsletters.
I like to send my newsletters once every couple of weeks.
It's a personal preference and you will need to experiment to see what works for you.
If you send them out once a week or more, you may have people opting out or unsubscribing from your newsletter.
Test your frequency and then go from there.
Resources for newsletters include: www.constantcontact.com and www.1shoppingcart.com.
There are dozens more but these are a couple of the biggies.
Constant Contact has a free 30 day trial (30 days or 100 subscribers last time I checked) and then it's $15.00 a month and up after that.
$15.00 or $50.00 is nothing particularly if you make some sales due to your newsletter. It basically pays for itself.
1shoppingcart.com is not only a newsletter service but is also a shopping cart system.
There are different levels for different needs.
Personally, I use the Pro package which is $79/ month and includes all of the top features that you will need as you grow your business.
Next time we'll discuss newsletter content...

Opt in basics
Once you've created a website that "speaks to your customer", it's time to capture their email address with your opt in box.
Most fitness, bodybuilding websites don't have these - we covered this in some earlier blog posts.
So to capture the email address you have 2 choices.
1) You're already high profile like Lee Priest so you don't have to do anything.
2) You're not high profile (yet) so you need to give something in order to get something.
Let's cover #2.
What can you give your potential customer in return for his/her email address?
An eBook.
eBooks (electronic books) are still relatively new to most although they have been around for quite a few years.
They are a simple and great way to entice your potential customer to enter their email address in return for a good quality, informative eBook.
Here's an example:
"Discover Miss Fitness International's Favorite Calorie Blasting Full Body Workout! Enter your email address to receive it instantly!"
This headline would work well on Adela Garcia's website and it could work well on Miss Florida Fitness' or Miss Nebraska Figure's website.
Do you have a favorite workout, food, diet, routine, workout mix, etc?
These are all potential eBook "giveaways" for the customer base in your area.
You don't need to be in the elite or a professional to have a money making website.
You just need to know HOW to establish yourself and your website.
That's where I come in.
Have a great day!
Scott

Why Do I Need An "Opt In" Box For My Website?
An "opt-in" box is a tool to use in order to collect email addresses.
The option in box should be in the top "fold" of your main page so that the website visitor see's the opt in box immediately.
Some mistakes that I see include:
1) No opt in box at all.
2) Rather than an opt in box, a link is used that says "Contact me".
3) The opt in box is near the bottom of the main page where no one will ever find it.
Once you begin to collect email addresses you begin to build a list of potential customers who are interested in learning more about you and your products.
They've come into your "virtual store" - your website.
Now it's time to sell them your products via regular newletters.
For an example of the opt in box, please visit www.bodybuildersreality.com

The option in box should be in the top "fold" of your main page so that the website visitor see's the opt in box immediately.
Some mistakes that I see include:
1) No opt in box at all.
2) Rather than an opt in box, a link is used that says "Contact me".
3) The opt in box is near the bottom of the main page where no one will ever find it.

Websites 101
Honestly...most fitness websites (bodybuilders, fitness or figure websites) are horrible.
I just checked one out (no names!) and it was filled with slow loading images, broken links and spelling errors.
Most of the current fitness website "guru's" are bad. Really bad. Yes, the designer knows all about the business of building websites but it's obvious that they know nothing about marketing.
Most of the sites that I see (bodybuilding, fitness and figure) need to be torn down and redone.
Ask yourself this.
How much money is your site earning you right now? Not much, huh.
Well, here's a secret regarding your websites.
Pretend like you are the customer and ask yourself "WIIFM" (What's in it for me?).
The flashy stuff looks good but just isn't necessary.
People have limited time today.
Alot of internet users are still using dial-up.
Your website needs to be quick loading and immediately pulls the potential customer into the copy on the site.
Here is how you should be setting up your website:
1) Opt in box (at the top of the page)
2) Give something away in return for the potential customers email address.
3) Regular newsletters selling your videos, online training, eBooks, phone consultations, webinars, seminars, "how to" kits, and yes, even pictures.
Basic, yet powerful.
This is how I earn my living.
And I work about 12 hours a WEEK in my business.
I will expand on all of this over time but my time is up for now.

Muscle and Fitness Marketing 101
Welcome to my new blog - muscleandfitnessmarketing.blogspot.com!
The purpose of this blog is to share tactics and inside information with amateur and professional bodybuilders, fitness and figure competitors.
If you would like to learn how to market yourself and your business and earn "mucho dinero" then this is the place to learn.
There are 2 requirements that I demand from you.
1) You must have desire to earn money.
2) You must take action.
I can't share all of my secrets with you on this blog, but I can give you enough information for you to edge out your competition and create a nice living from your passion - bodybuilding, fitness or figure.
Who am I?
My name is Scott York. I live in Austin, Texas and am married with 2 young boys.
I work with Lee Priest (www.bodybuildersreality.com), Adela Garcia (www.adelagf.com)and Scott and Monica Brant-Peckham (www.monicabrant.com), just to name a few stars.
I am a former competitive bodybuilder and have studied marketing under some of the world's greatest marketing geniuses such as Dr. Joe Vitale (www.mrfire.com).
My passion is bodybuilding and fitness as well as marketing.
I work about 12 hours a week in my business and spend the rest of the time pursuing other interests.
I'd love to share what I've learned with you. I'd love to help you make money in your passion because most fitness, figure and bodybuilders are broke.
We can change that.
Stay tuned and check back each week for more.
Thanks,
Scott York
